About

Patrick Hicks teaches creative writing at Augustana College and he is the author of several poetry collections, most recently, Finding the Gossamer (2008) and This London (2010) both published by Ireland's acclaimed press: Salmon Poetry. His work has appeared in scores of international journals including, Ploughshares, The Utne Reader, Glimmer Train, Indiana Review, Christian Science Monitor, Virginia Quarterly Review, Natural Bridge, Commonweal, Tar River Poetry, Poetry East, Briar Cliff Review, Nimrod and many others. Patrick has been nominated several times for the Pushcart Prize, shortlisted for a variety of awards, and he recently won the Glimmer Train "Emerging Writer's Fiction Award". Aside from being a Visiting Fellow at Oxford, he is the recipient of a number of grants including one from the Bush Foundation to support work on his first novel, which is about Auschwitz.

He has lived in Northern Ireland, England, Germany, and Spain, but has returned to his Midwestern roots. When not writing, he enjoys watching thunderstorms roll across the prairie.
